In October 2017, the wireless fire alarm system based on LoRa transmission technology independently developed by Fanhai Sanjiang was fully applied in Wutai Mountain Scenic Area, including Tayuan Temple, Wuye Temple, Xiantong Temple, Luohu Temple, Guanghua Temple, Shifang.
Mount Wutai, located in the northeastern part of Shanxi Province, China, is said to be the Manjusri Bodhisattva Taoist Temple. The temple has a long history and a large scale of construction. There are 5 national cultural relics protection units, 6 provincial-level sites, 1 municipal-level site, and 31 county-level sites. Mount Wutai, Mount Putuo, Mount Emei in Sichuan, and Mount Jiuhua in Anhui are collectively known as the "Four Famous Mountains of Chinese Buddhism" and Mount Wutai ranks first among the four famous mountains which is national key scenic spot, national geological park, national 5A-level tourist attraction and the largest ancient temple group in Asia and was officially included in the World Heritage List in 2009.
It is precisely because of its reputation as the first holy place of Chinese Buddhism, Mount Wutai enjoys a prosperous incense all year round. There is a constant stream of tourists, pilgrimages, and blessings throughout the year. In 2016 alone, the total number of tourists has reached 5.122 million. Such a huge flow of people, a large number of religious fires, and surrounded by a national forest park with a forest coverage rate of more than 70%, many complex factors have brought tremendous pressure and challenges to the Wutai Mountain fire prevention and control work.
Wutai Mountain Scenic Area fire control department actively responded to the requirement of "using information technology to innovate social fire management", and introduced a new generation of wireless fire alarm system based on LoRa transmission technology independently developed by Sanjiang, and comprehensively promoted the transformation and upgrading of fire warning mechanism of Wutai Mountain.

Sanjiang actively investigated the needs of key cultural relics protection units such as ancient towns and ancient buildings. Relying on company’s rich fire alarm service experience and research and development capabilities, Sanjiang deeply integrated fire alarm technology with LoRaWAN transmission technology, and based on cloud Internet of Things management platform to realize the cross-regional remote management of large-scale cultural relics and ancient buildings with a large number and wide distribution.
The system has a long transmission distance (>2km in an urban environment), large access capacity (a single base station can access detectors>10,000), low power consumption (front-end detector continuous working time>5 years), low construction cost and other outstanding advantages, it perfectly solves the application difficulties of large-scale ancient buildings such as large areas, large numbers, and high density.

At the same time, the system adopts wireless transmission mode and independent installation design, which not only greatly simplifies the installation work, but also effectively avoids the adverse effects of equipment installation on the integrity and aesthetics of the building, and maximizes the preservation of the original appearance of the cultural relics.

In terms of management, the front-end equipment uploads the collected information to the cloud Internet of Things management platform in real time. The platform integrates data information such as location distribution and equipment status, and presents it to five mountain-view fire stations, so that the fire prevention and control of large-scale buildings can be truly and clearly realized.

In addition, the system also provides multi-channel remote alarm methods such as text messages, phone calls, WeChat, APP, and PC terminals for firefighters on duty. Through the establishment of a three-level alarm mechanism of "Monk-Temple-Fire Station", as well as all-round early warning channels, to the greatest extent, the system can avoid greater losses due to personnel negligence.
The local fire control department has unanimously recognized the technological changes and innovative functions brought by the system, and expressed the hope that the two parties will work together to build Wutai Mountain as a model case of fire protection IoT technology in the field of cultural heritage protection. Take the project as an opportunity to make positive contributions to the protection of national historical sites, precious cultural relics and other important historical and cultural heritage.
